AKR Seeks Experienced Marketing Manager
Asthmatic Kitty Records is seeking a Marketing Manager to join our team. This role will involve collaborating with the AKR team, artists, and their representatives to define, design, and execute marketing plans for a diverse calendar of releases and various projects. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive knowledge of retail and digital marketing strategies in music, the ability to work autonomously, and excellent communication and time management skills.
Here’s some of what you’d do
- Work directly and collaboratively with the entire AKR team and the artists (and/or their representatives) to create & implement marketing objectives for projects and music releases.
- Work with AKR team on marketing initiatives for the label itself (for ex: website optimization, label socials).
- Document, present, iterate on and execute album release marketing plans in North America and work alongside the AKR international marketing manager for global iterations of the plan.
- Identify creative marketing, promo, & retail opportunities for artists on behalf of AKR as well as for the label itself
- Manage, interpret, and report on the performance of campaign initiatives including; retail, direct-to-customer (Bandcamp, Shopify), DSPs, and social media.
- Be an ambassador for AKR, ensuring all outward-facing assets, copy, and campaigns maintain our standards and reflect our identity consistently.
- Light design for quick-turn graphics and video such as social graphics, package mockups, etc.
- Manage outside designers and/or lead on occasional art direction for larger projects, in conjunction with product lead.
- Work with distributor to maximize engagement and marketing efforts at digital service providers; generating, delivering, and approving marketing materials and copy and acting as point of contact for distributor for all things digital marketing.
- Strategize and manage social media for the label – including managing a calendar, writing copy, sourcing or creating graphics, planning, getting artist approvals, and posting.
- Strategize and suggest social media plans for artists – primarily focused on advising during release cycles, providing big-picture best practices and long-term growth.
- Work closely with distributor and rest of team to monitor performance of back catalog, and identify creative ways to react to upticks in activity or create moments of activity for overstock.
- Work with distributor to maximize engagement and marketing at physical retail across catalog and new releases – coordinating exclusive pressings, sales, special offers, and general retail marketing.
- Provide creative insight and planning for all elements of artist marketing, including retail marketing, advertising, social media, live and virtual events, and more.
- Coordinate asset creation with third parties and internally across campaigns, including music videos, remixes, live sessions, photoshoots, digital assets, etc – based on timelines determined in conjunction with general manager.
- Act as point of contact for marketing and advertising third parties when engaged for larger projects.
- Manage the marketing optimization of D2C e-commerce, in conjunction with product lead – updating banners and imagery, optimizing product images, descriptions, and other SEO, etc.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in music marketing or related field, ideally at a label, distributor or other setting with first-hand experience in marketing recorded music.
- Comprehensive knowledge of writing marketing plans for music releases and projects as well as analyzing and interpreting performance data.
- Experience working directly with artists.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Working knowledge in graphic & video design. No specific software requirements here, as long as you can produce quality content with your platform of choice.
- Familiarity with project management tools and modalities. We use Asana, Google Docs / Sheets, and Airtable mostly. You don’t need to know these already, but should be open to learn and quick to adapt.
- Up-to-date understanding of trends and best practices in marketing, specifically in the music industry.

- Someone who enjoys leading conversations, brainstorms, and presenting marketing plans and initiatives to artist and internal teams.
- Detail-obsessed, thorough and meticulous.
- A skilled navigator of artist and artist-team communications, able to get to the bottom of marketing goals and know how to translate that into a plan.
- Able to communicate effectively with artists, artist teams, co-workers, and contractors.
- Capable of marketing projects that don’t always include artists going on tour or being available for content creation.
- Excellent at sticking to deadlines and managing your time effectively.
- Skilled at following processes and keeping track of your work.
- Able to use quantitative and qualitative data to assess and report on campaign performance.

This is a fully remote position, preferably US-based, and even more ideally, Central or Eastern time-based. Occasional opportunities to travel to things like conferences may pop up, but it’s not an absolute requirement of the position.

Salary Range: $70,000-80,000 USD
