Director of Data Science
Job Summary
The objective of the Insights Team is centered on providing insight and aiding in business decision making from the coordinator level all the way to the Executive level.
The role of the Director of Data Science, a member of the Insights Team, is to take the masses of data delivered by each business partner and translate into intuitive data visualizations at scale, empowering employees to obtain the data they need in a timely, seamless, and visual manner. Leveraged by employees across multiple business units, the Insights Team acts as a single source of truth for critical company information, serving every core department.
The Director of Data Science is responsible for leading the analytics function to drive data-informed decisions across the organization. The role will leverage data to optimize content distribution, enhance audience engagement, and drive growth. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the music industry, advanced analytical skills, and be effective in presenting data that is actionable for key stakeholders. The Director of Data Science will deal with all aspects of a project from knowing what’s important to the business, to data collection and analysis, and finally to data visualization and presentations to lines of business and the executive team.
Essential Job functions
- Design, develop, and maintain statistical / machine learning data models, metrics, and algorithms that can be used to analyze large datasets related to music consumption, project performance, and market trends to drive significant results.
- Analyze complex data findings into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for marketing campaigns, artist development, and business strategy.
- Discover, track, and analyze developing artists and songs using data-driven methods. Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and other relevant teams.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to provide forward-looking insights that inform business decisions.
- Create detailed reports and visualizations to effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Clearly convey the key insights or “stories” the data reveals in a visual, intuitive format.
- Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to streaming and audience engagement.
- Develop and present actionable insights to inform strategic decisions regarding artist releases, marketing campaigns, and content strategies.
- Provide recommendations on playlist placements, promotional activities, and artist development based on data trends.
- Utilize advanced analytics tools and platforms (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, BigQuery, AWS Bedrock, etc) for data processing and visualization at scale.
- Create detailed reports and interactive dashboards that communicate data insights to stakeholders.
- Conduct randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies.
- Provide thought leadership on emerging trends and technologies in the analytics space, and help the organization stay ahead of the curve.
- Collaborate with IT, Marketing, and label partners to ensure that analytics activities are integrated with other business processes.

Required experience
- At least 5-7 years of experience with managing and transforming big data in excess of 1 billion rows, data analytics and insights within the music industry, preferably using AI / ML modeling data analysis tools and techniques to drive significant change in an organization.
Required skills
- Strong ability to analyze complex data sets, identify trends, and generate actionable insights.
- Expert proficiency in SQL based data manipulation, analysis tools (e.g., Python, R), ETL processes, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, BigQuery).
- Understanding of the music industry, particularly in the context of streaming platforms, digital music consumption, and music industry data schema.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of how to work with and interpret data, along with high aptitude for learning and using new software programs.
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A genuine interest in the music industry and a passion for staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies.
Education
- Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Information Technology, Data Science, Computer Science, Data, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Graduate degree a plus, but not required.
