Junior Lawyer – Legal & Business Affairs
As a Junior Lawyer, you’ll support the Senior Director of LBA, offering timely advice and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Your tasks will range from contract drafting and legal research to attending meetings and managing corporate compliance. Stay current with APRA AMCOS, ARIA, and PPCA guidelines, and work closely with marketing and external lawyers. Key Responsibilities.
- Assisting the Senior Director of LBA in the provision of effective and timely advice to all lines of the business;
- Analysis of industry legislative and regulatory compliance requirements;
- Contributing to the enhancement of internal policies and frameworks;
- Remaining up to date on APRA AMCOS, ARIA and PPCA practices and guidelines;
- Assisting in the preparation of agendas for internal and external meetings and, as required, attending such meetings and taking minutes;
- Attending to sample, adaptation and interpolation requests;
- Contract tracking database updates;
- Legal research;
- Assisting in preparation for internal and external audits;
- Contract reviews and proofing;
- GDPR compliance;
- Corporate compliance (including lodgement of ASIC documents);
- Internal document filing;
- Contract set-ups in Adobe;
- Local trade-mark tracking;
- Keeping up to date with common law precedents, and providing case summaries of relevant decisions;
- Assisting in drafting and reviewing contracts including recording contracts, publishing contracts, production music agreements, sample and adaptation agreements, third-party contributor agreements and sync agreements (eg. producer and mixer agreements).
- Assisting in drafting and reviewing T&Cs and liaising with marketing to obtain all relevant information regarding upcoming competitions and promotions;
- Liaising with BMG’s external lawyers.
Your Profile
- Completion of a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree.
- Hold a current Australian practising certificate.
- Previous experience in a legal assistant,paralegal or junior lawyer role.
- Familiarity with contract law, intellectual property, and industry-specific regulations
- Understanding of guidelines from APRA AMCOS, ARIA, and PPCA.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and managing various types of contracts (recording, publishing, production music, and third-party agreements)
- Strong analytical skills for legislative and regulatory requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and maintaining contract tracking databases
- High level of accuracy in proofreading contracts, conducting legal research, and common law precedents
