About the role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive individual to join our team as a Label Assistant at Edition Records. In this role, you will support the Label Manager in a variety of day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities including managing release campaigns, overseeing rights management, servicing retail partners, and handling general label administration. This position is ideal for someone eager to advance their career within a dynamic and innovative independent label setting.

As a Label Assistant, you will report directly to the Label Manager and play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and coordination across the label’s operations. Your involvement will be key to the success of our album release campaigns, providing you with an opportunity to make a significant impact.


Work Environment

This position offers the flexibility to work remotely or, if you prefer, from our office in Berkshire. It is essential that you have reliable internet access and your own personal computer, as the role requires consistent online availability during working hours. You may on occasion be required to attend the office or other locations as specified by the Label Manager for team meetings or Edition Records events.

Pay

This is a part-time freelance position, offering a competitive rate of £12 per hour. The role is expected to require two days of work per week (16 hours), worked between Monday – Thursday, ideally worked in full days or blocks of no less than half a day. We would be open to discussion about the flexible delivery of these hours with the successful candidate.


Responsibilities

In this role your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks to support the Label activities and ensure the efficient delivery of work.

These include:

  • Administrative Support: Assisting the Label Manager and providing broader team support as needed to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Campaign Coordination: Collaborating with the Label Manager to manage and maintain campaign timelines and workflows for album releases, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and deadlines are consistently met.
  • Preparation of Releases: Supporting the coordination, preparation, and submission of albums and singles to our distributor, while ensuring that all materials are correctly compiled and formatted.
  • Metadata Management: Working with the Label Manager to update and maintain metadata across various systems, ensuring all information is accurate and uniformly presented.
  • Streamlining Music Access: Generating secure streaming links for early access to unreleased tracks for partners and collaborators.
  • Drafting Sales Materials: Creating initial drafts of sales pitches aimed at distributors, media, and other key stakeholders, emphasising the unique attributes and commercial appeal of our releases.
  • Newsletter Coordination: Helping draft newsletters to fans and media, effectively communicating key updates and announcements.
  • Proofreading: Examining artwork documents and manufacturing order forms to ensure their accuracy and consistency.
  • Tour Schedule Coordination: Updating and maintaining accurate tour schedules for label artists, coordinating timely information dissemination and ensuring adequate distribution of merchandise.
  • File System Organisation: Managing and labelling digital files and documents within our storage systems to promote an efficient and organised workflow.
    Website Upkeep: Supporting the upkeep of our website’s product and artist pages, ensuring content is current, accurate, and engaging whilst working with the e-commerce assistant to achieve this.
  • Internal Communications: Contributing to internal reporting processes, offering insights and updates on ongoing label activities to keep staff informed and engaged.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in using computers and familiarity with various software applications, particularly Google Workspace and Airtable; and including experience with platforms such as WordPress & Woo Commerce Website, Bandcamp, to facilitate efficient management of operations.
  • Music Industry Knowledge: Experience within record labels or familiarity with music industry more widely, an understanding of standard practices and processes
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, coupled with excellent literacy, to effectively interact with team members, artists and partners.
  • Detail-Oriented: Keen attention to detail and accuracy, especially in tasks such as data entry and order processing.
  • Independent Approach to Work: The ability to work autonomously, demonstrating effective time management and the ability to adapt flexibly and proactively to various tasks.
  • Previous experience: Experience in an administrative or support role
  • Passion for Jazz and the music of Edition Records & E2 Music.
