The Artist Marketing Manager role is part of the team responsible for creating compelling marketing campaigns for our Catalogue roster (all UMG music that has been released for more than 2 years) and Classics & Jazz roster. Working on some of the most successful, innovative, timeless and respected artists of all time, continuing to grow their audiences and keep the world listening.

The department develops strategies across audio, video, marketing, social, streaming, physical and product development to continually grow listenership for our Catalogue. You’ll be responsible for the planning and execution of our priority artist listener growth plans across both International and Domestic artists, engaging new audiences across key marketing channels & partnerships to drive fan growth as well as retain and engage existing audiences.

About the role:

Delivery of Artist Marketing Campaigns & Audience Growth + Projects:

  • Plan & execute best-in-class fan growth campaigns for Universal Music’s International and Domestic catalogue artists and Classics & Jazz projects and building their listenership in Australia.
  • Across our International and Domestic catalogue roster, you are the key ambassador to ensure the delivery of a collaborative and fully integrated fan growth plans.
  • Display entrepreneurial flair and overt drive to further grow artist fanbases in Australia
  • Create strategic alignment with cross-functional teams
  • Work closely and build strong relationships with artists and their management teams where applicable
  • Create and sell in growth plans that are tailored to the needs of the artists/management teams
  • Develop pioneering campaigns that use storytelling to culturally connect with new fans & super fans alike.
  • Identify, amplify and sustain resurgent trends to ensure fan growth for our artists in Australia.
  • Build content plans and manage content production tailored to different channels and audiences
  • Develop impactful & effective advertising assets with the content creation team
  • Manage relationships with internal Media & Audience teams to elevate our artist’s profile across Press, TV & Radio
  • Manage relevant artist showcases and events
  • Be constantly on the lookout for innovative marketing channels and initiatives with the goal of delivering industry firsts on a regular basis.
  • Build relationships with Catalogue and Classics & Jazz teams in other global markets,
  • Be highly literate with all social media platforms and aware of the unique fan engagement capabilities of each and how these apply to the artists under your remit.

Project Representation and Ownership

  • As the ambassador for International and Domestic catalogue artists and their music, it’s your role to proudly represent all aspects of their ‘brand’ within the organisation.
  • You boast the day-to-day responsibility for ideating, developing and delivering ongoing tailored content and activity for the overall team strategy
  • You’re responsible for the design and set up of physical release strategies for Catalogue artists
  • Deliver connected and cutting-edge strategies across departments and labels.
  • Use your superior ability to influence and build rapport in order to deliver the departments strategy and objectives
  • Communicate plans to commercial, international and marketing teams to enable optimum support on digital services.
  • Operate at pace and deliver outcomes to the required quality and timelines
  • Build excellent relationship-building and relationship-management skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Showcase a keen and passionate understanding of how listeners, across different generations discover and engage with artists and their music

Content:

  • Basic video editing experience (eg adapting existing footage and repurposing for optimum and effective storytelling opportunities) is highly desired to enable quick turnaround of amplification assets.
  • Contribute ideas and help refine suggestions into compelling creative propositions to artist and management.
  • For more detailed productions – collaborate with the creative content team to deliver the highest quality digital assets.
  • Work with Performance Media to deliver bespoke digital initiatives.

  • A deep passion for music, and an understanding of the music business
  • Passionate about growing audiences for artists and taking new and fresh approaches in the pursuit of growth
  • +3 years in a similar role
  • Be a great communicator with strong influencing skills & experience conveying creative ideas & plans to internal & external stakeholders
  • Deadline and detail oriented
  • Be self-motivated, autonomous and able to work independently
  • Basic video editing experience is desirable
  • Degree qualification required (Marketing/Business/Arts)
