Kobalt Label Services (KLS) has a signed a worldwide label services agreement with multi-instrumentalist producer, singer and guitarist, Tom Misch.
The deal is particularly noteworthy because Misch has been ‘developed’ as an artist for the past two years while self-releasing material via Kobalt’s AWAL digital distribution platform.
Now, rather than sign a traditional label deal, Misch’s debut album is coming out in partnership with KLS, which will contribute digital distribution, physical distribution, marketing, international marketing and synch licensing services at KLS.
The 21-year-old South London native has been working with AWAL since 2014 when he released the joint EP, “Out To Sea” with the artist, Carmody.
In 2015 he released a collaboration mixtape, “Beat Tape 2” which led to support from Beats1, BBC Radio 1, Spotify and Apple.
The project has generated more than 30 million combined streams to date.
Misch’s new track, “Crazy Dream” featuring Loyle Carner, scored him his first BBC Radio 1 Playlist record.
“We are proud that tom has chosen to take his own route to market and retain control of his music.”
Vincent Clery-Melin, Kobalt Label Services
Vincent Clery-Melin, Global Head of Creative for Kobalt Label Services said, “We began working with Tom two years ago via our AWAL service and we are delighted to continue this fantastic journey with Tom and his management team.
“We believe he is a special artist and his ever developing talent as a producer, songwriter and performer lead us to believe he’s going to deliver a stunning debut album which will position him globally as one of the best new talents to emerge from the current London scene.”
Clery-Melin continued, “Equally importantly, we are proud that Tom has chosen to take his own route to market and decided to retain control of his music and ownership of his masters, as well as thankful that he chose Kobalt as a partner to deliver his campaign and music to the world.”
Duncan Murray, Misch’s manager said, “We are extremely excited to be continuing our relationship with KLS, they have provided us with crucial funding and support in the early stages of Tom’s career and we feel they are the perfect partner to help us deliver Tom’s debut album whilst allowing him the opportunity to retain his rights with full creative control.”
Misch is currently working on his premiere album to be released next year and is preparing for his sold out debut US tour this November, along with his headline show in London.
Other Kobalt Label Services clients include Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Pet Shop Boys, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Deadmau5, Courtney Barnett, and Todd Terje.
