Kobalt has signed a publishing deal with renowned Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.
The worldwide deal, excluding Japan, includes administrative, creative, and global synch services for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s catalog, excluding a handful of select compositions, and future works.
Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese composer, musician, performer, record producer, and environmental activist who has pursued a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as one-third of Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). His career began in the ‘70s.
Sakamoto has won multiple awards including a Grammy, an Oscar, a BAFTA and two Golden Globes for his film-score work for films such as The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky, Little Buddha and The Revenant.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence marked his debut as both an actor and a film-score composer. He has also worked with international artists including David Bowie and Iggy Pop, and composed the music for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Most recently, Sakamoto’s music is featured on the latest season of Netflix’s Black Mirror.
