Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, a multi-platinum-selling artist, has joined forces with PPL, the UK’s music licensing company, to collect royalties internationally for his neighboring rights.
This marks PPL’s first signing of 2024 and adds Capaldi to a growing roster of artists who signed with PPL last year for international collections, including Central Cee, Libianca, and Trevor Horn. Capaldi was previously signed with Kobalt for worldwide collections.
Capaldi is a powerhouse in the UK music scene, boasting two BRIT Awards, two UK number-one albums, and five number-one singles. He even achieved a Billboard No. 1 single in the US and holds the distinction of being the first artist to sell out an arena tour before his debut album release.
His debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, was the biggest in the UK for two consecutive years. In 2022, Capaldi’s dominance extended to streaming services, where his ballad, Someone You Loved, dethroned Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You to become the UK’s most-streamed song ever. The artist currently has nearly 36 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
“We are committed to ensuring that the neighbouring rights royalties [Lewis Capaldi] earns from the use of his records reflects the extensive global impact of his music.”

Further solidifying his popularity, Capaldi secured the most TikTok views of any UK artist in 2023 and a Grammy nomination for his Netflix film How I’m Feeling Now.
“Lewis Capaldi stands out as one of the most accomplished and dedicated performers to come out of the UK in recent years. To have him choose PPL for the international collection of his neighbouring rights income is a great way to end the first quarter. We are committed to ensuring that the neighbouring rights royalties he earns from the use of his records reflects the extensive global impact of his music,” said Kate Reilly, Chief Membership and People Officer at PPL.
Capaldi’s Manager, Ryan Walter, Managing Director of Interlude Artists, added: “We’re incredibly excited to be partnering with the brilliant team at PPL who consistently demonstrate exceptional dedication, care and attention to detail across Neighbouring Rights, it’s an honor to have the chance to work alongside them.”

Headquartered in London, PPL licenses recorded music use within the UK and collects royalties on behalf of performers and recording rightsholders worldwide. By signing with PPL, Capaldi gains access to their team of over 200 experts, technology for data processing, and a network exceeding 110 agreements with international collective management organizations (CMOs).
This partnership allows PPL, founded in 1934, to collect royalties for Capaldi whenever his music is played on radio, TV, or in public spaces around the globe. Just last week, PPL announced a record-breaking distribution of £18.8 million ($23.6 million) in international revenue to over 22,000 performers and rightsholders.
In 2023, PPL paid out £279.6 million ($351.6 million) to more than 165,000 performers and recording rightsholders, a new all-time high.
