Martyn Ware, founding member of The Human League and Heaven 17 – and music producer for Tina Turner, Terrence Trent D’Arby and Mavis Staples – has become Principal of the new post-graduate and professional training venture Tileyard Education based at Tileyard Studios, London.
Located in King’s Cross, Tileyard Studios houses 82 artist recording studios and over 120 music and entertainment businesses including The Prodigy, Lily Allen, Tinchy Stryder, John Newman, Notting Hill Music, Spitfire Audio, Focusrite, Maverick and more.
Tileyard Education opened a new training centre in January and is launching a suite of post-graduate and professional training programmes in songwriting, production, music business, design and film making later this year.
Ware, who is a Visiting Professor at Queen Mary College, University of London, a member of BAFTA and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, said: “I’m honoured to join the Tileyard team as Principal for Tileyard Education.
“My approach, like the courses we are launching, is very much based on pragmatism – teaching students how to augment and, in particular, strongly apply the network of skills needed to be successful in today’s mixed media workplace.”

“The exciting and unique possibilities of helping to design a brand new educational approach to the music industry persuaded me to get involved and I fully intend to use my passion for education to help create a genuinely world-class series of courses which will enable students to achieve their maximum potential in the rapidly changing music industry.
“My approach, like the courses we are launching, is very much based on pragmatism – teaching students how to augment and, in particular, strongly apply the network of skills needed to be successful in today’s mixed media workplace. I believe that Tileyard Education, housed within the Tileyard Studios community, will be unique in offering the most diverse and connected range of employable skills, knowledge and networks – in fact it is my mission to make sure this happens.”
Harry Leckstein, Managing Director, Tileyard Education, said “we are absolutely delighted to welcome Martyn to this pivotal, strategic role at Tileyard Education. Martyn remains at the forefront of 3D sound design through his major projects with Illustrious and his iconic status as an artist and producer of The Human League, Heaven 17 and Tina Turner cement him as a true master of his craft.
“Tirelessly dedicated to pushing boundaries, exploring new technology and sharing his knowledge with the next generation, Martyn will be a true inspiration to those studying with and working alongside him.”
Tileyard Education is launching a series of validated one year, full time MA programmes, starting with MA Music Industry Entrepreneurship and MA Commercial Songwriting and Production in October 2017, and a suite of professional creative short courses, both on and offline, in audio production, design, music business, digital film making and online branding.Music Business Worldwide
