The 2020 edition of Cannes-based music industry conference, Midem, which was due to take place from June 2-5, has been cancelled due to concerns about Coronavirus.
Announcing the news today, Midem Director Alexandre Deniot said that “given the uncertainty surrounding the virus and companies’ concerns for the safety of their people, it is not possible” for the event to go ahead as planned.
The next edition of Midem will take place June 1-4, 2021.
The cancellation of the event comes amidst a global lockdown imposed by policy makers in an attempt to contain the spread of Covid-19.
In France, as of Saturday, there were 37,575 confirmed cases of infection, up from 32,964 the previous day.
In spite of the cancellation of the event in Cannes, Midem says that it it “rebooting” with a new digital format.
The Midem Digital Edition will take place June 2-5, 2020.
“Wherever customers are in the world, they will be invited to be part of the Midem Digital Edition,” said the press release announcing the news today.
The digital edition will feature live-streamed keynote sessions, talks and presentations, as well as opportunities for online conversations and speed-meetings between participants.
Details of the service will be shared in the coming weeks.
