Mike Alexander has been appointed General Manager of Universal Music Group label Island Records.
Alexander’s appointment was announced today (January 31) by Imran Majid and Justin Eshak, Co-CEOs of Island Records.
The news of Alexander’s new role at Island follows the recent appointments of Majid and Eshak as Co-CEOs of the frontline UMG label.
Continuing to be based in New York, Alexander will report jointly to Majid and Eshak.
Alexander, a UMG veteran of nearly two decades, has spent the past year in a leadership role as Executive Vice President of Island Records.
While overseeing the operations for the label, UMG says that he has been vital in Islands’ success including Shawn Mendes, The Killers, Demi Lovato, and others.
Earlier, he served as Executive Vice President, International, a position that jointly encompassed Island Records, Def Jam Recordings and Republic Records.
Alexander has spent his entire music career within UMG, having started as an intern in 2003, prior to becoming an assistant two years later at the former Island Def Jam Music Group.
He spent the next eight years working in positions of increasing responsibility, and was subsequently named Vice President, International in 2012; Senior Vice President, International in 2013; and Executive Vice President, International, in 2017.
Alexander has worked closely with a wide roster of artists including Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Drake, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Demi Lovato, Bon Jovi, The Killers, and more.
