Nigeria-based music streaming service uduX and mobile service provider MTN Nigeria have struck a new partnership that will see MTN subscribers gain access to discounted data bundles for accessing content and streaming unlimited music on the uduX app.
MTN Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest providers of communications services with over 60m subscribers in the country.
Universal Music Group inked a licensing deal with uduX in April 2019, becoming the first major music company to license its catalog to the service.
The company now claims to be “the first African-owned streaming platform to have all three global major record companies signed to its service”, having now also been licensed by Sony Music and Warner Music Group.
Another Nigeria-based Music service, Boomplay, is also licensed by all three majors, having signed deals with Universal Music Group in November 2018), Sony Music in November 2019 and Warner Music Group 2019).
Boomplay, which covers multiple regions in Africa, is jointly owned by two large-scale Chinese companies, Transsion Holdings and NetEase, as part of their Transsnet Music Limited JV.
uduX’s partnership see MTN will see the telco’s subscribers gain access to discounted data bundles for accessing content and streaming unlimited music on the uduX app.
Subscribers will be able to pay for the service using their pay-as-you-go airtime or data packages in addition to being able to pay via credit card.

The uduX app is also available for download in the Google Play and App stores.
