Primary Wave Music Publishing has acquired a stake in the music publishing rights and recording revenue of the songs and recordings by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Justin Hayward of legendary English rock band The Moody Blues.
The terms of the deal will see the independent publishing house acquire a stake in the music publishing catalog, as well as master royalty stream.
Included in the deal are a number of hits such as Nights In White Satin, In Your Wildest Dreams, I Know You’re Out There Somewhere, and Question.
From being immortalized on The Simpsons to having their music featured in movies, television and in national advertisement campaigns such as VISA, The Moody Blues are embedded in pop culture.
Part of the historic original British invasion of the 1960s, The Moody Blues released hits like Nights in White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon and I’m Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band).
The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 14 platinum and gold discs.
The band’s No.1, Top 5, Top 10, Top 20, Top 40, Multi-Platinum, Platinum and Gold albums and singles have generated sold-out tours on a consistent basis over the course of several decades, making them one of the top-grossing album and touring bands in existence.
Justin Hayward, whose other compositions include The Voice, Question, Gypsy and Say It With Love was awarded ASCAP’s Golden Note award in 2005 and in 2003 was given the Gold Badge by the British composers society BASCA.
He recently received his second prestigious Ivor Novello statue for Outstanding Achievement.
