Uganda-based Nyege Nyege Tapes has inked a global Neighboring Rights deal with PRO Agency.
The label, based in Kampala, originated from the festival of the same name, which has taken place annually in Uganda since 2015.
Nyege Nyege Tapes releases music across a range of genres, including Electro Acholi from Northern Uganda and Singeli from Tanzania.
PRO Agency was founded in 2012 by the German distributor Cargo Records and now independently administers neighboring rights for producers and performers at 46 collecting societies worldwide.
Its partners on the label and distribution side include among others Kompakt, Secretly Canadian, Secretly Group, Cinq Music Group, Berliner Philharmoniker, Symphonic Distribution, Majestic Casual, Boysnoize Records and on the performing artists side Parcels, Alva Noto, Volbeat, Wolfgang Voigt, Jonathan Bree, Zeal & Ardor and Sophie Hunger.
