Seymour Stein’s Sire Records has signed two young UK bands in The Lottery Winners (pictured) and Sugarmen from Liverpool.
Hailing from Leigh, indie pop band The Lottery Winners have been building a reputation on the live music circuit, bolstered by exposure through the BBC‘s Introducing program and support from 6Music and NME.
Released last year, the debut single from Liverpool’s Sugarmen, Dirt, was produced by The Clash’s Mick Jones in Paul Weller’s studio.
The band have since opened for Weller, as well as Blur and The Who in Hyde Park.
Both bands will release their debut albums on WMG imprint Sire in 2017, when the label celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Said Stein of his new signings: “It’s so refreshing to see such a unique and great performing live band [in The Lottery Winners]. Truly amazing songwriting. I expect great things from this very special bunch of musicians.”
“I was blown away when I first saw Sugarmen live, and then again when they opened for The Who and Blur.
“In May I saw the band at Liverpool Sound City and they keep getting better and better; the songs, their musicianship and their live performance.
“Both bands are perfect additions to the Sire roster. I look forward to working with them and Warner Bros, and having success with The Lottery Winners and Sugarmen as part of Sire’s 50th Anniversary in 2017.” seymour stein, sire records
