Last week, data analytics specialist Next Big Sound revealed that SoundCloud’s popularity had doubled over the past year.
Now SoundCloud has confirmed that it is cutting ties with the firm.
Next Big Sound has long been a partner of various music platforms including Spotify and SoundCloud.
It analyses data from these companies for music industry clients, especially artists and managers.
NBS, which launched in 2009, was fully acquired by Pandora in May, which appears to have triggered SoundCloud’s decision to walk away.
“With the recent acquisition of next big sound by pandora, we have decided, as a normal course of business, that the time has come for NBS to discontinue using soundcloud’s API.”

“With the recent acquisition of Next Big Sound by Pandora, we have decided, as a normal course of business, that the time has come for Next Big Sound to discontinue using SoundCloud’s API.”
When Pandora’s takeover of NBS took place, the analytics firm told its existing industry partners that they could “ rest assured it’s business as usual at Next Big Sound”.
Next Big Sound’s review of 2015 so far was released last week.
