We’ve previously reported how Amazon-owned live streaming service Twitch is becoming an increasingly important platform in the music business.
Today brings further evidence of this: SoundCloud is launching a new Twitch channel, called ‘SoundCloud on Twitch’, which SoundCloud describes as “a new home for all artists, creatives and listeners to meet emerging acts, hear from some major names in music and connect directly with the SoundCloud team”.
SoundCloud on Twitch will launch with a slate of originally produced live programming, featuring artists, producers, and industry experts.
Today’s news follows last month’s announcement of SoundCloud’s partnership with Twitch to fast-track SoundCloud Pro, SoundCloud Premier and Repost creators directly to Twitch Affiliate status.
SoundCloud on Twitch officially launches on Wednesday, May 6, at 2pm ET with ‘Studio Sessions with Soulection’ a weekly, 90 minute music show hosted by Soulection Founder Joe Kay and special guests “surfacing the best under-the-radar beats”, according to a press release.
Following that, a three-hour, weekly live chat series, ‘Cloud Bar’, premieres on Thursday, May 7 “with creators, industry execs and influencers” discussing a range of topics, from how-to’s for a career in music and industry insights to new trends in music discovery, culture and artist well-being.
This week’s line-up includes CAA agents, Zach Iser and Caroline Yim, artist managers Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans, Dae Bogan of The Mechanical Licensing Collective, XXL’s Editorial Director, Georgette Cline, hip-hop entrepreneur, Roger Gengo (Masked Gorilla, UNMASKED Concert Series, Masked Records), hip-hop artist, producer, and activist Vic Mensa, and Kathryn Frazier from Biz 3.
Two new shows will then debut the following week, including ‘Fresh Pressed’, described as SoundCloud’s ‘hottest new tracks’ feature, which will be live every Monday from 2-3:30pm EST.
The first episode airs Monday, May 11 with hosts Jessica Messier, Independent Label Relations at SoundCloud and Marisa Jeffries, Director of Label Relations at SoundCloud.
And finally, airing Wednesday, May 13 and every other Wednesday after that, ‘Fast Track’, will see “rising beat makers show off their skills”.Music Business Worldwide
