Last year Spotify was testing a Stories feature for its Playlists to allow artists to interact with fans.
That feature was reported by Jane Manchun Wong, and the test version found was by Sigrid, which included a video Q&A around songs in her Don’t Feel Like Crying playlist.
Spotify is revisiting the Stories concept for its platform in 2020, but this time, according to a report from TechCrunch – which it says has had confirmation from Spotify – the feature is for Influencers rather than artists, and intended to be a discovery tool rather a promotional one.
YouTube star Summer Mckeen is the first influencer to try it out.
TechCrunch also writes that Spotify plans to “roll the new feature out to other notable names across the entertainment, lifestyle and music industries in the near future”.
“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning,” said a Spotify spokesperson in a statement issued to TechCrunch.
“We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”
