Another senior Spotify executive has left the building.
SPOT’s Global Marketing Lead, Matt Webster (pictured), has joined live streaming platform Twitch as Director of Marketing, EMEA.
The London-based exec joined Amazon-owned Twitch this month, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The news of his departure comes as Spotify recruits for a very similar-sounding role to the one Webster has left behind, with MBW having spotted an ad last week for a New York-based Global Marketing Strategy Lead.
This person will need to have at least 8-10 years’ international marketing and/or strategy consulting work experience and will report to the firm’s Head of Global Marketing Strategy.
“As Strategy Lead, you will be responsible for developing a marketing strategy to guide Spotify’s marketing investments around the world, leading integrated marketing programs to grow awareness and love for Spotify’s masterbrand, and commercializing new growth initiatives that helps Spotify expand its reach to new markets and audience segments,” states the ad.
Webster initially joined Spotify as Head of Marketing, New Markets in 2017 and was promoted to Global Marketing Lead in January last year.
According to his LinkedIn bio, at Spotify he was “responsible for 18 market launches including India, South Africa, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Morocco and Algeria”.
Prior to joining Spotify, Webster was Head of International Marketing at SoundCloud and was Head of Marketing Operations at Ticketmaster before that.
In October, we wrote about some of the other executive talent to have departed Spotify’s ranks over the past 36 months.
In early 2018, Spotify’s L.A-based Head of Original Content Licensing, Pat Shah, left the company to join Twitch.
He has now been Head Of Music Strategy & Licensing at Twitch for over two years.Music Business Worldwide
