Tempo Music buys into music catalog of Twenty One Pilots’ singer-songwriter Tyler Joseph

US-based Tempo Music Investments has acquired a portion of Tyler Joseph’s catalog.

The investment includes a selection of Joseph’s hits as the songwriter for twenty one pilots, including the Diamond certified Stressed Out, Ride, and Heathens.

In addition, says Tempo, the deal sees a new “strategic alliance” launched between Joseph and long-term manager, Chris Woltman, working alongside Tempo on other potential investments.

The $1 billion backed Tempo was launched in 2019 and funded by Providence Equity Partners, a premier private equity firm specializing in the media, communications, education, software and services industries, in partnership with Warner Music Group.

Self-billed as a “platform to promote recording artists and songwriters across the globe”, Tempo recently revealed 18 months of strategic investments after a period of relative quiet and leadership changes.

Tyler Joseph, said: “The passion from the Tempo team around the idea of these songs, as well as the long-term strategy of their vision, is powerful for a songwriter.

“I look forward to working with Josh Empson, the team at Tempo, along with Warner Chappell, as we uncover new ways to drive discovery of these songs.”

“It’s a true privilege for Tempo to partner with Tyler and Chris.”

“He has given a powerful and nuanced voice to issues that many of us shy away from talking about.

“His profound authenticity, supported by Chris Woltman’s astute management, has won Tyler millions of fans around the world who feel a deep, abiding, and personal connection to his work.

“It’s a true privilege for Tempo to partner with Tyler and Chris.

“This is what we founded Tempo for: to be a long-term ally for modern masters like Tyler and his peers on the Tempo roster.”

“we have never skipped a step to ensure that, at its core, the music connects with fans all around the world.”

“We look forward to being a part of the team at Tempo and the opportunities we will uncover within the deeper partnership.”

In January, Tempo’s former CEO, Sherrese Clarke Soares abruptly exited her position at the company.

Under Tempo’s new new CEO, Josh Empson, acquisitions have included the catalogs from multi-platinum-selling, GRAMMY® Award-nominated recording artist Wiz Khalifa, country duo Florida Georgia Line, songwriter Brett James and singer-songwriter Mia Fieldes.

These acquisitions are in addition to the acquiring of catalogs from Grammy Award-winning songwriter, producer and CMNTY Culture founder Philip Lawrence (24k Magic & Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars, All I Ask by Adele, and more) and songwriter, producer, engineer and Frank Ocean collaborator Malay.

Tempo’s first acquisitions included selected copyrights of songwriters Jeff Bhasker, Shane McAnally and Ben Rector.Music Business Worldwide
