Universal‘s Pat Shah has joined Spotify as the streaming service’s Head Of Original Content Licensing, MBW understands.
For the past 18 months years, Shah (picture inset) held the role of VP, Digital Business Development at UMG, where he worked on complex licensing transactions with Google Play, YouTube, Samsung, Tidal, and Vevo, among others.
His responsibilities at Daniel Ek‘s company will include working with content creators, producers, and talent to bring new media experiences to Spotify.
Digital content and strategy dealmaker Shah joined UMG in 2012 after the major acquired his former place of work, EMI Music, for $1.9bn.
Shah was a VP, Digital Business Development at EMI for three-and-a-half years.
The news comes just under a year after Universal’s President of Global Digital Business, Rob Wells, left the major after 14 years.
Wells was effectively replaced at UMG by WMG veteran Michael Nash in late October.Music Business Worldwide
