Warner Chappell Music has renewed its deal with Mandopop artist and Chinese R&B pioneer, David Tao
He has won six Golden Melody Awards – the Taiwanese equivalents of The Grammys – including prizes for Best Male Chinese Singer and Best Album.
Tao was the first debut artist to be nominated in five categories at the Golden Melody Awards, following his eponymous debut album in 1997.
Six further studio albums followed, including Hello Goodbye most recently in 2013. He’s also toured extensively, performing across Asia as well as in the US and Canada.
In addition to his own successful career as a singer-songwriter, Tao has written and produced music for major Chinese stars such as A-Mei and Jolin Tsai and adopted a far-sighted approach to nurturing young music talent.
He founded the New Song Education programme, which supports young musicians through mentoring, seminars and workshops.
He was also a judge on the Chinese TV show Sing My Song.
Tao will be performing in a charity concert in Taipei to raise fund for disabled children on November 27 and is also planning to release a new album.

“The team manages my songs well and I am happy to continue our relationship. Their efforts have meant my time has been freed up to pursue my belief in music, education and film production.
“Also, I’m really excited about the projects we have worked together, particularly the opportunities to work with writers and artists from different backgrounds and cultures.”
“His evergreen songs have been very influential to the development of Asian music and he’s been absolutely integral to the success of the Mandopop scene.”
